1994年11月15日凌晨1时许，吉林市银都夜总会发生一起特大大灾。其中一具7千万年前、长11米、高6.5米的恐龙化石在大火中化为乌有。世界现存最大的珍贵陨石“吉林一号”也葬身火海。
经过消防支队全力奋战，终于在4时30分左右将大火扑灭。据消防部门的消息共抢救出被困人员15人，保住了博物馆建筑物7400多平方米，市图书馆典藏、期刊等近百万册书也得以保存下来。
