据英国方面10日消息，英国内政部统计数据显示，自2018年以来，乘小船横渡英吉利海峡抵达英国的偷渡人员已突破20万。消息称，仅在本月8日一天就有70人横渡英吉利海峡，今年偷渡人员累计已达7380人。
近年来，非洲和中东地区大批民众为躲避战乱逃往欧洲。从法国经英吉利海峡偷渡至英国的非法移民人数激增，英国与法国曾多次尝试合作打击海上偷渡行为。
