自己的成长故事登上INS是种什么体验？

The Snow on the Way

—The Memorial when I studied in the IPC with my dear supervisor Kendall

I am Lily Zhang and I learned in the IPC at University of York last year. I received many invaluable lessons from there. The thing I found the most proud of myself there was I loved Math and I achieved my goals with this subject, which isI got the highest grades (i.e the 100%) in last year with the help of my academic tutor Kendall. Because I didn’t find anything that interested me in maths before I came here, my grades were always at a poor level, I couldn’t believe myself that I could improve it whoever taught this. However, I found a lot of things interesting when I studied the Statistics sections, and I received a lot of warmth and support from all tutors of the maths team—I felt more confident about learning this subject and could get a better grade in this case.

On the 15th of February this year, my academic tutor Kendall helped me to finish the interview by sharing some tips on improving the skills when I was the student ambassador in Kaplan, and I was familiar with him at that time too. I also felt there were so many difficulties in Statistics at that moment, and I felt so helpless after my friends tried their best to help me in this, Kendall knew my situation and he decided to help me immediately. He spent a lot of time in the individual class with me and even a session could be 1 hour each time. I still remember that when I was struggling with a concept, Kendall taught me how to understand it 6 times on it— When I heard there was a difficult situation in his family on that day, I thought it would be very hard for both of us and Kendall could stop the sessions at any time. However, Kendall still helped me understand the concepts very patiently. I thought I needed to learn more things by myself and didn’t let him worry because of this, but I could not find a solution for this problem so I learnt how to deal with my negative emotions by myself.

Kendall also added 2 sessions before the final exam and avoided the bank holidays, and he asked me very nicely “if these are enough for you?” I finished the exam very well and I achieved my goal because of his help. Kendall even taught me how to deal with the problems in my internship and my career, such as how to handle the situation in managing the business of the clubs and how to be a nice leader. I will keep these valuable experiences that he told me about “the hope is produced by yourself” in my mind, and improve my own life with these things.

Now I am starting with my UG program in the University, and we could always meet each other and keep in touch by email when I went to self-study at the Campus East,even I could hear Kendall’s advice when I really needed on time.I am not only proud that I leant these experiences and achieved “an impossible goal” last year, but also in meeting my dear tutor and maintaining a good relationship with him—I still feel so lucky and grateful that Kendall saved my life since that interview last winter!

今年2月15日，我的学术导师Kendall帮助我完成了面试，分享了一些提升技能的技巧。当时，我还是Kaplan的学生大使，并且已经和他熟悉了。我也意识到统计学对我来说依然充满困难，在我朋友们尽力帮助我之后，我仍感到无助。

当时，Kendall了解我的情况，决定立刻伸出援手。他花了很多时间陪我进行一对一的辅导，每次甚至有时会进行一小时的课程。我仍然记得在我挣扎于一个概念时，Kendall一次又一次地教我，六次都教我如何理解这个概念——尽管那天他家里遇到了困难，我知道这对我们俩来说都会很难，Kendall完全可以随时停止辅导。

然而，Kendall依然耐心地帮助我理解这些概念。尽管我认为自己需要更多独立学习，不想让他为我担心，我还是没能找到解决问题的办法，因此我学会了如何自己处理负面情绪。

Kendall还在期末考试前为我安排了两次辅导，并避开了假期，他非常体贴地问我：“这些对你来说够了吗？”我顺利完成了考试，并且达到了我的目标，这一切都得益于他的帮助。Kendall甚至教我如何应对实习和职业生涯中的问题，比如如何处理俱乐部管理中的各种情况，如何成为一位好的领导者。我将永远记住他告诉我的宝贵经验——“希望是由你自己创造的”，并将这些经验用于改善自己的生活。

现在，我已经开始了大学本科课程的学习，每当我去东校区自习时，我们依然可以见面，并通过电子邮件保持联系。每当我真正需要帮助时，Kendall的建议也能及时传达给我。我不仅为自己去年学到的这些经验感到自豪，也为遇到这样一位亲爱的导师，并且与他保持良好的关系而感到自豪——我依然觉得自己非常幸运和感激，因为自从去年冬天的面试以来，Kendall改变了我的生活！
