当地时间2月16日，美国国家气象局发布降雪报告，芝加哥地区在过去23天内已经出现16天的大规模降雪天气，这是自1979年以来该地区最持久的一次降雪。截至15日，芝加哥地区至少发生了17起因暴风雪导致的车祸，其中3人死亡，5人受伤。
