万宁桥是积水潭的入口，也是京杭大运河最北边的一个闸口，以前，所有南方来的漕船都要经过万宁桥进入积水潭。如果穿越回元代，站在万宁桥上向西看，碧波荡漾的积水潭里满是南方来的漕船，繁华一时。它见证了北京中轴线逾七世纪的延续，被誉为中轴上的第一桥，并有万事安宁的美好寓意。
