据新华社，美国“强力球”彩票网站9月7日宣布，开出17.87亿美元的头奖，两名中奖者将分享这笔奖金。这是美国彩票史上奖金额第二高的头奖。据美国媒体报道，两名中奖者分别来自密苏里州和得克萨斯州，具体身份未对外披露。头奖得主有两个选项，可一次性领取4.1亿美元奖金，或30年分期领取8.94亿美元。上述奖金均为税前数额。
