据菲律宾媒体1月28日报道，参议院议长索托三世称，针对总统马科斯和副总统莎拉·杜特尔特的弹劾投诉是“全世界的笑柄”，因为此事会影响国家在全球的形象。
“希望别（发生这样的事）。这太丢脸了，不过，万一真发生了，我们也会做好准备。我已经准备好了。”索托周日表示。
索托还保证，即便举行弹劾审判、由参议员组成弹劾法庭，参议院仍能履行职责。
此前，索托就已保证，一旦众议院提交弹劾条款，参议院将立即采取行动。
