上周,我们的新任理事Malcolm Pritchard博士来到启明星学校三里屯校区和北皋校区。
他和理事会成员、学校管理团队进行了面对面的沟通,还和中学学生共进午餐,并在之后进行了一场富含启发的对话:
我想听听你们对启明星的看法。”——这是Pritchard博士引导学生反思自己的学习和成长环境;
‘‘现在,给你一支Magic Pen!(魔法笔)来改变学校里的一件事,让它变得更好,你有什么想法?’’——这是鼓励学生们大胆提出自己的需求;
“如果从改变自己开始,你会做什么?”——这是儒家的讲求,修身为本,由己及人,先做人,后做事。
这样的引导思路和启明星23年来的坚持并行不悖,孩子们的思路立即活跃起来。
他们说,喜欢启明星这样“人人都相互认识的小型社区”,享受能在这里“做自己”的感觉;分享了各自的“从自己做起”;也坦言了心里的需求:
修建游泳池;
增加课后答疑时间;
中学生越来越多了,希望增加中学部教室;
获得更多的实习和外部资源;
Pritchard博士说,他会坚守作为理事的职责,把孩子们的想法反映给学校管理团队。
15分钟不长,但它启发学生思考,联通学校和学生的需求,撬动了改变和成长。

香港弘立书院前总校长Malcolm Pritchard加入启明星理事会
Last week, Dr. Malcolm Pritchard, newly appointed Daystar Academy advisory board member, visited our campuses.
He met face-to-face with the Board of Advisory and the school’s leadership team, and over lunch led a focused 15-minute dialogue with secondary school students:
I’d like to hear your views about Daystar." — prompting students toreflect on their learning and growth environment.
"Imagine I give each of you a magic pen and ask you to identify one thing you would change to make Daystar a better school—what it be?" —encouraging them to boldly communicate their expectations and priorities.
"What change would you like to be? What do you want to change in your world—not the school, not your family, but where you are?"This embodies a Confucian perspective:start by developing one’s character, and extend that to others; focus both on being and doing.
This line of inquiry aligns with the principles and practice Daystar has upheld for the past 23 years, so it felt natural and familiar to the students.
They shared that they value Daystar as "a close-knit community where everyone knows each other," and they appreciate the freedom to "be themselves" here. Students also shared how they would "start with themselves" — while candidly expressing their needs:
* Build a swimming pool
* Adding more after-class Q&A time
* Expand the secondary school classrooms
* Gain access to more internships and external resources
True to his commitment as an advisory board member, Dr. Pritchard said that he would convey the students’ ideas to the school’s leadership team.
Though just 15 minutes, the conversation inspired students’ reflection, connected the expectations and needs of students and the school, and set meaningful growth in motion.
