北京时间9月12日，博塔弗戈与瓦斯科达伽马展开巴西杯1/4决赛次回合较量，在比赛开始前双方球迷发生冲突。
根据现场目击者拍摄的视频，可以清楚的听到枪声、烟火声和喊叫声。两名瓦斯科达伽马球迷在双方球迷的斗殴中被枪击中。
其中一人头部中弹，虽被紧急送往急救中心，但因伤势过重不治身亡。另一名男子脚部中枪，已被送往医院医疗，目前情况不明。
