当地时间2月1日，美国政府宣布，对来自加拿大和墨西哥的进口商品征收25%的关税。加拿大总理特鲁多随后召开记者会表示，将对美国征收报复性关税。加拿大将对价值1550亿加元的美国商品征收25%的关税。其中，300亿加元的关税将于2月4日生效，另外1250亿加元的关税将在21天内生效，以便美国公司有时间进行调整。
