2006年9月22日，在德国西北部的埃姆斯兰试车场，一列磁悬浮列车在试车过程中，以每小时200公里的行驶速度，撞上了一台服务修理机车，磁悬浮列车上23人当场殒命，10人受重伤。
这是世界上第一例磁悬浮列车致人死亡事故。经各方推断，这次撞车事故的原因是人为疏忽，而非技术故障。
