肩胛骨位于第二和第七胸椎（T2-7）水平之间，肩胛骨内侧缘到胸椎棘突约2英寸（5厘米）。肩胛骨内侧缘并非与脊柱平行。
肩胛骨通常与冠状面形成约30度左右的夹角，关节盂窝面向前方；这个位置被称为肩胛骨平面。
