特别像A400M的新中运，定位战术运输机介于运-9和运-20之间，采用四发涡桨布局。有效载荷约30-35吨，满载航程超过3000公里，最大航程可达7000公里，还具备空中受油能力。有了这款新型中运，运-8估计也用不上了，而且作为新平台货舱内空间更大更合理，未来还可以改装出多种不同型号特种机。
