黄绿色的痰液并不一定代表着细菌感染。
早在1995年Robertson就发现，绿色的痰液颜色是由参与免疫反应的白细胞释放出的过氧化物酶引起的，而病毒性支气管炎时痰液呈淡黄色或绿色可能是正常现象。因此不能单凭痰的颜色来断定就是细菌感染，也不应一看到黄绿色痰就想到用抗生素。
