In a quiet neighborhood in the Netherlands, i29 Architecture has built a "time courtyard"-like elderly residence for a family of three generations. This 100-square-meter single-story residence is like a gentle spatial poem, with "close and independent living" as the core concept. While retaining the scale and context of the original main house, it uses wax wood exterior walls and sandwich board roofs to write modern rhythms. When grandparents look through old photo albums under the grape trellis in the central courtyard, and grandchildren chase and play in the open kitchen and living room, the building becomes a bridge connecting intergenerational emotions - the exposed roof rafters record the changes of light and shadow, the warm texture of the oak wall carries family memories, and every corner tells the philosophy of life of "accompanying without disturbing".

在荷兰的一片宁静街区，i29 建筑事务所为三代同堂的家庭打造了一座 "时光庭院" 般的长者居所。这座 100 平方米的单层住宅如同一首温柔的空间诗，以 "亲近而独立的栖居" 为核心理念，在保留原有主宅尺度与文脉的同时，用蜡木外墙与三明治板屋顶书写现代韵律。当祖父母在中央庭院的葡萄架下翻看老相册，孙辈们在开放式厨房与客厅间追逐嬉戏，建筑成为连接代际情感的桥梁 —— 裸露的屋顶椽子记录着光影的变迁，橡木墙面的温润肌理承载着家族记忆，每个角落都在诉说着 "陪伴而不打扰" 的生活哲学。

The layout of the building itself is a fugue of family affection. The central courtyard, as the heart of the space, is surrounded by the kitchen, dining room and living room. Three fully retractable sliding doors eliminate the boundary between indoor and outdoor. One spring morning, while preparing breakfast in the kitchen, the grandmother saw her grandson chasing butterflies in the courtyard through the glass door. The sunlight passed through the rafters and cast spots on the ground, interweaving with the child's shadow to form a dynamic picture. The sliding blinds on the west side can not only block the strong light for the afternoon reading area, but also adjust the angle to allow the elderly to observe the direction of the main house through the gap. This "controllable visual connection" not only ensures the privacy of independent life, but also satisfies the elders' concern for their children and grandchildren.

建筑的布局本身就是一曲亲情的赋格。中央庭院作为空间的心脏，被厨房、餐厅与客厅环绕，三扇可完全收起的滑动门消除了室内外界限。某春日清晨，祖母在厨房准备早餐时，透过玻璃门看到孙子在庭院里追逐蝴蝶，阳光穿过椽子在地面投下的光斑与孩子的影子交织成动态画面。西侧的滑动百叶既能为午后阅读区遮挡强光，又可调节角度让老人透过缝隙观察主宅方向，这种 "可控制的视线连接"，既保证了独立生活的私密性，又满足了长辈对儿孙的牵挂之情。

The bedroom and bathroom area form a quiet area on the north side. The designer deliberately extended the headboard background wall to the outside to form a continuity of materials - the light-colored oak indoors and the wax wood exterior walls outdoors meet here. When the elderly get up late at night, the touch of their fingertips across the wall forms a subtle echo with the texture of the exterior wall when walking in the courtyard during the day. The design of the bathroom hides the ingenuity of being suitable for the elderly: the frosted glass skylight brings in soft daylight, the texture of the non-slip floor tiles imitates the stone slabs in the courtyard, and the metal bracket of the suspended toilet is wrapped in oak veneer, which ensures safety and beauty. These details make daily living a comfortable sensory experience.

卧室与卫浴区构成北侧的静谧地带。设计师特意将床头背景墙延伸至室外，形成材质的连续性 —— 室内的浅色橡木与室外的蜡木外墙在此交汇，当老人深夜起夜时，指尖划过墙面的触感与白日在庭院散步时触摸外墙的质感形成微妙呼应。卫浴间的设计暗藏适老巧思：磨砂玻璃天窗引入柔和天光，防滑地砖的纹理模仿庭院石板路，而悬挂式马桶的金属支架被包裹在橡木饰面中，既保证安全性又不失美观，这些细节让日常起居成为舒适的感官体验。

The wax wood panels on the exterior walls have been specially treated, and will gradually turn silver-gray over time, echoing the bark color of the old apple tree in the courtyard. The edges of the sandwich panels on the roof deliberately expose metal connectors. These "industrial traces" contrast with the hand-polished oak window sills, just like the life trajectory of grandparents who have experienced the era of traditional handicrafts and accepted modern life. The light gray concrete floor in the room retains the natural texture when it was poured. The mark left by the grandchildren who spilled juice unexpectedly became a material witness of family life. The designer believes that this is the best interpretation of "the traces of living give the space a soul."

外墙的蜡木板材经过特殊处理，随着岁月流逝将逐渐呈现银灰色调，与庭院里那棵老苹果树的树皮色泽形成呼应。屋顶的三明治板边缘故意露出金属连接件，这些 "工业化的痕迹" 与手工打磨的橡木窗台形成对比，恰似祖父母那代人既经历过传统手工艺时代，又接纳现代生活的人生轨迹。室内的浅灰色混凝土地面保留着浇筑时的自然纹理，某次孙辈打翻果汁留下的印记，意外成为家庭生活的物质见证，设计师认为这正是 "居住痕迹赋予空间灵魂" 的最佳诠释。

The custom cabinets and kitchen system follow a strict logic of horizontal lines, forming a "horizontal and vertical" compositional dialogue with the exposed white rafter ceiling. The countertop of the kitchen island is made of Corian, whose warm texture makes the elderly feel comfortable when preparing meals, and the open storage compartments below are specially designed at different heights to facilitate the storage of small stools and commonly used tableware for grandchildren. A tile recycled from the old kitchen of the main house is embedded in the oak panel on the wall of the restaurant. The hand-painted tulip pattern on the tile is the work of the grandmother when she was young. This "transplantation of memory" instantly gives the new space a historical temperature.

定制橱柜与厨房系统遵循严格的水平线条逻辑，与裸露的白色椽子天花板形成 "横与竖" 的构图对话。厨房岛台的台面选用可丽耐材料，其温润质感让老人在准备餐食时倍感舒适，而下方的开放式储物格特意设计成不同高度，方便存放孙辈们的小凳子与常用餐具。在餐厅墙面的橡木饰板上，嵌入了一块从主宅旧厨房回收的瓷砖，瓷砖上的手绘郁金香图案是祖母年轻时的作品，这种 "记忆的移植" 让新空间瞬间有了历史的温度。

The extended design of the roof creates a shaded walkway and a dramatic light and shadow effect indoors. In the early morning, the sun shines through the high windows on the east side and casts a slender shadow on the rafters. As time goes by, the shadow gradually widens and moves westward, becoming a natural clock for the elderly to judge time. The grape trellis in the courtyard is not only a landscape element, but also a filter of light and shadow. In the summer afternoon, the shadow of the grape leaves moves slowly on the dining table, forming an alternating performance of "natural light and artificial light" with the chandelier above the kitchen counter; in winter, the low-angle sunlight penetrates the branches and draws abstract line paintings on the ground.

屋顶的延伸设计创造了遮蔽的步行道，同时在室内形成戏剧性的光影效果。清晨，阳光透过东侧的高窗在椽子上投下细长的影子，随着时间推移，影子逐渐变宽并向西移动，成为老人判断时间的自然时钟。庭院里的葡萄架不仅是景观元素，更是光影的过滤器 —— 夏季午后，葡萄叶的阴影在餐桌上缓缓移动，与厨房操作台上方的吊灯形成 "自然光与人工光" 的交替演出；冬季则让低角度的阳光穿透枝条，在地面绘出抽象的线条画。

The bedroom lighting system is designed with humanistic care. The wall lamp at the head of the bed uses an adjustable metal arm, so the elderly can freely adjust the light according to their reading needs; and the LED light strip hidden between the rafters provides soft background light at night, and the light is reflected on the light gray ground, creating a quiet atmosphere of "moonlight falling". Once, when my grandfather came back from hospital, he lay in bed late at night looking at the shadows of the rafters on the ceiling, and suddenly found that these shadows were surprisingly similar to the outlines of the wooden beams of the barn in his hometown when he was a child. This visual association across time and space gave the unfamiliar new space a sense of belonging to home.

卧室的照明系统设计充满人文关怀。床头的壁灯采用可调节角度的金属臂，老人可根据阅读需求自由调整光线；而隐藏在椽子间的 LED 灯带则在夜间提供柔和的背景光，灯光反射在浅灰色地面上，营造出 "月光洒落" 的静谧氛围。某次祖父住院归来，深夜躺在床上望着天花板上椽子的影子，忽然发现这些影子与儿时故乡谷仓的木梁轮廓惊人相似，这种跨越时空的视觉联想，让陌生的新空间有了家的归属感。

The barrier-free design of the whole house is cleverly integrated into the aesthetic expression. The corners of the corridor are specially set with curved oak corner guards. Their warm touch not only prevents collisions, but also serves as a tactile guide for the elderly when walking; the floor drain cover of the bathroom is designed in the shape of leaves, and the vortex formed by the water flow during drainage makes washing hands interesting. This is a detail that the designer deliberately added after observing that the elderly like to watch the running water in the courtyard of the main house. The most touching thing is the "Memory Stone Bench" at the entrance of the courtyard - the bench surface is transformed from the step stones removed from the main house, and it is engraved with the year of the grandparents' marriage and the birth dates of the grandchildren, becoming a material carrier of family history.

全屋的无障碍设计被巧妙融入美学表达。走廊的转角处特意设置弧形橡木护角，其温润的触感不仅防止碰撞，更成为老人行走时的触觉引导；卫生间的地漏盖设计成树叶形状，排水时水流形成的漩涡让洗手变得有趣，这是设计师观察到老人喜欢在主宅庭院里看流水后特意加入的细节。最动人的是庭院入口处的 "记忆石凳"—— 凳面由主宅拆除的台阶石改造而成，上面刻着祖父母结婚年份与孙辈们的出生日期，成为家族历史的物质载体。

On an autumn evening, the whole family sat around the stone table in the courtyard. The sun shone through the gradually yellowing grape leaves, casting mottled light and shadows on the dining table. The grandparents pointed to the old tiles on the wall and told stories of the past, while the grandchildren excitedly showed the colorful fallen leaves they picked up in the courtyard. This residence for the elderly designed by i29 interprets the true meaning of "companionship" in the language of architecture - not physically closely connected, but through the clever layout of space and the emotional injection of details, the lives of different generations are both independent and interconnected. As the wax wood exterior wall gradually changes color over the years, and as the concrete floor leaves more marks of life, this "time courtyard" will continue to witness the emotional story of a family and become a gentle architectural poem about family affection and time in the Dutch countryside.

在某个秋日的黄昏，全家人围坐在庭院的石桌旁，阳光穿过渐渐泛黄的葡萄叶，在餐桌上投下斑驳的光影。祖父母指着墙上的老瓷砖讲述往事，孙辈们则兴奋地展示在庭院里捡到的彩色落叶。这座由 i29 设计的长者居所，用建筑的语言诠释了 "陪伴" 的真谛 —— 不是物理上的紧密相连，而是通过空间的巧妙布局与细节的情感注入，让不同代际的生活既独立又相互关联。当蜡木外墙在岁月中逐渐变色，当混凝土楼板留下更多生活印记，这个 "时光庭院" 将继续见证一个家族的情感故事，成为荷兰乡村里一曲关于亲情与时光的温柔建筑诗。
