As the school year progressed, everything seemed to be going smoothly for Sarah. She had made a few close friends, her grades were good, and she was getting involved in more school activities. However, just when she thought she had everything under control, something unexpected happened.

One afternoon, as Sarah was sitting in math class, the teacher handed back their most recent test. When Sarah saw her grade, her heart sank. She had failed.

Math had never been her strongest subject, but she had always managed to get by with decent grades. This time, though, she hadn’t studied enough, and it showed.

After class, Sarah sat at her locker, staring at the paper in disbelief. She felt embarrassed and frustrated. What would her parents say? What if she couldn’t improve her grade in time?

Jake noticed her sitting alone and came over. “Hey, what’s up? You don’t look too happy.”

Sarah sighed, showing him the test. “I failed. I don’t know how I’m going to bring my grade up.”

Jake looked at the test and then back at Sarah. “Hey, it’s just one test. You can bounce back from this. Besides, I’m pretty good at math. How about I help you study for the next one?”

Sarah was surprised but grateful for the offer. “Really? That would be amazing. I could use all the help I can get.”

Over the next few weeks, Jake and Sarah met after school to study together. With Jake’s patient explanations and encouragement, Sarah started to understand the material better. Slowly but surely, her confidence grew, and by the time the next test came around, she was feeling much more prepared.

When the test results were handed back, Sarah couldn’t believe her eyes. She had passed with flying colors. She looked over at Jake, who gave her a thumbs-up from across the room. Sarah smiled, feeling a sense of accomplishment she hadn’t felt in a long time.
