1946年，东京街头，两名美国大兵正在乘坐人力车周游。许多日本老兵返回日本后，发现他们已被宣布死亡，爹死娘嫁人，老婆也已经改嫁。
由于找不到工作，有些人只能当人力车夫。战后的日本经济低迷，他们主要为美国大兵服务。
