世界语（Esperanto）是由波兰眼科医生柴门霍夫博士创造的一种国际辅助语言。世界语以印语系中几种主要语言为基础，在语音、词汇、语法上加以改进，设28个音位，相应地用28个字母表示，读音和拼写完全有规则，较易于学习和掌握。1887年7月26日，柴门霍夫自费出版了《世界语第一书》。此后，人们就把7月26日作为世界语的创立日。
