刺嫩芽喜生长在沟谷、阳坡、土壤肥沃、潮湿或半阴的杂木林、阔叶林、混交林、次生林中或生长在林缘，灌木林、沟边等地。虽然功效惊人，但是很多农村人也没有吃过，甚至在路边错过了这种野菜。现在国内人民也非常喜食刺嫩芽，特别是高级饭店一盘刺嫩芽价值上百元。
