北京时间7月6日，在世界杯1/8决赛英格兰与东道主墨西哥的比赛中，贝林厄姆完成的梅开二度帮助三狮军团半场过后取得2-1的领先优势。
根据Opta的统计，贝林厄姆也就此成为了自1986年以来，首位在阿兹特克球场进行的世界杯比赛中完成梅开二度的球员。上一位达成这一成就的球员是1986年世界杯半决赛代表阿根廷在和比利时的比赛中打进2球的马拉多纳。
