蒙原羚俗称黄羊，从前是内蒙古草原最常见的野生动物。它们不固定迁徙，随草场四处漫游，聚集最多可达25万只，场面壮观。
雄羊有着发达喉结，繁殖期会发出低沉鸣叫声求偶。如今草原围栏阻断移动路线，我国境内种群锐减，被评定为极危物种。
