很多民众存在固有认知，认为尿酸升高是大量摄入肉类、嘌呤过多导致，仅靠限制肉食就能控制尿酸。中国中医科学院西苑医院副主任医师郗瑞席指出，该观点忽略了尿酸代谢完整机制，九成以上高尿酸人群病根为肾脏排泄障碍。
