Whanganui地区指挥官、警督Neil Forlong表示：“轿车内三名乘员在事故中全部遇难，油罐车司机则因中度伤势接受治疗。”

为确保没有其他人员涉事，警方还出动直升机协助应急人员对现场周边区域进行搜寻。

Forlong表示，“三条生命的逝去令人心碎”。

“初步调查显示，事故发生前轿车可能越过了道路中心线，但具体原因仍是我们调查的重点。”

“最初曾担心车内可能还有第四人，但目前已确认并不存在这一情况。”

Forlong对紧急救援人员的快速响应表示肯定，并称他们“面对的是一个非常艰难的现场”。

“这样的事故对相关家庭以及整个社区来说都是毁灭性的，警方将继续为受影响的人士提供支持。”

严重事故调查组已完成现场勘查，警方昨日预计道路将于今早恢复通行。目前，事故原因仍在进一步调查中。
