As Shanghai revitalizes the densely populated Suzhou Creek waterfront, the city relies on grassroots consultation to balance diverse community needs. Through the "Suzhou Creek Community Forum" in Putuo District, residents of all ages gather to debate complex public space issues, such as whether recreational fishing should be permitted. With local water authorities participating directly in these town-hall-style meetings, public deliberation seamlessly informs administrative action. Following these discussions, the city collected 226 public suggestions regarding ecological restoration and waterfront development, successfully upgrading 11 designated fishing spots with smart facilities to ensure safety and enjoyment. This episode showcases how collective wisdom and open dialogue are driving modern urban governance.
