秦昭襄王五十一年（前256年），秦昭襄王俘周赧王灭周，标志着周朝彻底灭亡。由于中华文明从未中断，所以历代正统皇朝也应该是连绵不绝的，所以应该把秦昭襄王代周视为秦朝的开始而非一般的秦始皇灭齐，那么秦灭周时秦朝就取代周朝成为中华正统皇朝，秦朝的统一战争也由此开始，直到秦始皇灭齐结束。
