男子给220年古树投毒，只因“枝叶遮挡房屋采光”

今年7月底，广西壮族自治区贺州市园林绿化管理中心工作人员发现，位于八步区新宁街的一棵220年树龄挂牌古樟树出现异常。古树一侧枝叶已明显枯黄，生长状态岌岌可危。经仔细检查，工作人员在树基周边开设的用于透水排气的孔洞中，发现大量散发刺激性气味的可疑物质。

A 220-year-old camphor tree in Hezhou city, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, was deliberately poisoned in late July, local authorities reported. The ancient tree showed signs of severe deterioration, with large sections of its leaves turning yellow and its health declining rapidly.

园林部门随即将情况向当地公安部门反映，警方立即立案侦查，最终锁定犯罪嫌疑人曾某。

Local officials discovered the situation during a routine inspection. Upon closer examination, they found that toxic substances had been poured into ventilation and drainage holes around the tree's roots, emitting a strong, pungent odor.

曾某到案后如实供述，因认为这棵古樟树的枝叶遮挡了自家房屋采光，便产生了“除树”的念头。他先后通过线下农资店、线上电商平台，购买了名为“环嗪酮”的有毒物质（俗称“大树死”“烂根王”）。为避免被发现，曾某分多次将有毒物质悄悄灌注到古树根部的透水排气孔中，企图通过毒杀根系让古树自然死亡。

The case was immediately reported to the police, who identified a suspect surnamed Zeng. According to the investigation, Zeng admitted that he poisoned the tree because he believed its branches blocked sunlight from reaching his home.

To avoid detection, Zeng purchased a toxic chemical known as hexazinone. He then applied the chemical multiple times into the roots of the ancient camphor tree.

目前，曾某已被依法采取刑事强制措施，案件正在进一步办理中。

Zeng has now been placed under criminal compulsory measures, and the case is under further investigation.
