Two Foreign Nationals From Huangpu Win the Magnolia Gold Award

On the morning of September 29, the presentation ceremony of the 2025 Shanghai "Magnolia Gold Award" was held grandly at Shanghai Municipal People's Government. Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng presented awards and certificates to 28 awardees. Mr. Alexander Rhys Gregg-Smith, SVP M&O APA, CE M&O China, Bureau Veritas Marine (China) Co., Ltd., and Mr. Jens Gustav Ewert, Vice Chair of Deloitte Asia Pacific, Senior Partner of Deloitte China MNC Clients Service, won the awards.

After Mr. Alexander Rhys Gregg-Smith came to Shanghai, he led his company to climb the technological peak with outstanding professional qualities and leadership skills. Although he had won the "Magnolia Silver Award", he still maintains his original intention of advancing rapidly, actively enhancing the discourse power of Shanghai enterprises in the international shipping field, and contributing to the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Service Center. For his contribution, he said, "Shanghai has provided us with a stage, and we should use technology and responsibility to nourish this city."

Carrying the responsibility and commitment of "being in China, doing for China", Mr. Jens Gustav Ewert closely follows the pace of innovation-driven and economic transformation in Shanghai. After winning the "Magnolia Silver Award", he and his colleagues from Deloitte China continue to be active in various professional fields, promoting Shanghai and telling the story of Shanghai well. After winning the gold award, he said: "I look forward to further strengthening interaction with various partners at the city and district levels in the future, and continuously contributing to optimizing the investment and business environment, and assisting enterprises in technological innovation."

"Magnolia Friendship Award" (including "Honorary Citizen of Shanghai" and "Magnolia Gold Award") and "Magnolia Silver Award" are named after the city flower Magnolia, aiming to recognize the outstanding contributions made by foreign residents in Shanghai to the economic and social development of Shanghai. As of 2025, the number of winners recommended by Huangpu District has reached 56, including 13 for Magnolia Gold Award and 43 for Magnolia Silver Award, from various fields such as economy and trade, finance, technology, shipping, healthcare, and international exchanges. Huangpu District will continue to promote the participation of foreign nationals in participating in the selection of the "Magnolia" series of awards, contributing to the continuous creation of an international first-class business environment and attracting global talents and resources to gather in Huangpu.
