9月10日，苹果中国官网更新信息显示，iPhone Air通过eSIM激活，不支持实体SIM卡。使用eSIM需要选择支持eSIM的运营商及相关的移动通信服务计划。并非所有运营商都支持eSIM。在中国内地仅支持激活型号A3518。用户可前往中国联通线下营业厅核验身份证件并进行激活。据介绍，中国联通是中国内地唯一受支持的iPhone eSIM运营商。
