8月14日，日本北海道罗臼岳发生一起野生熊袭击登山者事件。受害人与友人登山途中遭棕熊袭击并被拖入灌木丛后失踪。
8月15日，搜寻人员在现场附近发现并捕杀1只母熊及2只幼熊，附近有一具损伤严重的遗体，疑为失踪男子。
