罗马诺在社媒表示，加图索已经同意担任意大利队新任主教练，双方已经达成协议，加图索将即刻上任，取代斯帕莱蒂。
目前意大利队的处境也相当艰难，在斯帕莱蒂麾下，2024 年欧洲杯表现欠佳，2026 年世界杯预选赛开局不利，0-3 惨败挪威，目前在 I 组仅 1 胜 1 负排名第 3，落后榜首挪威 9 分，出线形势严峻。
