相传伏羲诞生于此，以龙图腾凝聚部族，甘肃省天水市因此有“龙城”之称。天水市是中国历史文化名城，有2700多年的建城史。
因“两山夹一河”的地形，天水市秦州区在明清时期形成了东关城、大城、中城、西关城、伏羲城“五城连珠”的空间格局。时至今日，寻常巷陌间仍可见古城风貌。
