“高考”的英文是“Gaokao”吗？“填志愿、被录取”用英语又该怎么说？

一年一度的全国高考即将于6月7日拉开帷幕，全国各地1335万名高考考生走进考场，迎接他们人生中的一次重要挑战。

众所周知，每年外媒都会对中国的高考进行相关报道，高考的英文名“Gaokao”也已经被收录进牛津字典中，这是一个十分具有中国特色的表达。

但是，大家需要知道“高考”的官方英文翻译，那就是National College Entrance Examination，简称为NCEE。

其实，“高考”翻译成“Gaokao”不算错，但也不完全正确，这里有个处理方式需要我们学习。来一起看看外刊例句吧：

1. Media shine a spotlight on China's notoriously tough university entrance exam as millions of students prepare for the two-day test.The national college entrance exam, known as the "Gaokao", will start on Saturday.

通过观察，不难发现老外在描述高考时，都会选择“官译（NCEE）+known as/or(Gaokao)”这样一种处理方式。非常严谨的一种方式，值得我们学习。

“填志愿”的英语

高考结束后的填报志愿也是一个至关重要的环节。那么“填志愿”用英语怎么说呢？

就是college application，即“大学申报”。

例句：

I want to help those who are not familiar with the college application process.

我想要帮助那些对填报志愿不太熟悉的人。

第一志愿 the first choice

第二志愿 the second choice

第三志愿 the third choice

“一本、二本和三本”的英语

一本、二本和三本（院校）也被称为“本科一批、本科二批和本科三批”，所对应的英文就是patch，该词本身具有“小块儿，小片”的意思。

① the first patch of universities 一本院校

② the second patch of universities 二本院校

③ the third patch of universities 三本院校

例句：

Beijing has also combined its first and second batches of universities for students to apply, but allows students to apply to up to 16 universities and 6 majors at each.

北京也将本科一批、二批合并，设置16所平行志愿高校，每个志愿高校设置6个志愿专业。

“被录取”的英语

1.be admitted to/into

admit作为动词，除了最常用的“承认”的意思，还有“接受，接纳（入学）”的意思，常用于被动语态，即be admitted to/into。

值得一提的是，这里的be可以与get互换使用。

例句：

I was admitted to Harvard University。

我被哈佛大学录取了。

2.be enrolled by

关于enroll，这个词大家也不陌生。作为动词，它最常用的意思就是“登记；把...计入名册”，当然它也有“予以录取”的意思。

例句：

I wish that I could be enrolled by a famous university.

我希望我可以是进入一所著名的大学。

3.be accepted by

例句：

He told me that he had been accepted by a prestigious university。

他告诉我他已经被一所名校录取了。

4.receive the admission notice/the letter of admission

这里的the admission notice和the letter of admission都是指“录取通知书”。

千万注意admission一词，名词，表示“录取（入学）”

例句：

She sent the good news to her family as soon as she got her letter of admission。

她一拿到录取通知书，就向家里飞报了这一好消息。
