当地时间5月5日，美国东北部马萨诸塞州、缅因州、纽约州、康涅狄格州、罗得岛州、佛蒙特州六个州的州长向加拿大六个省的省长发出邀请，拟在波士顿举行会谈，讨论“美国关税政策的影响，以及美国和加拿大如何继续合作维持强劲的贸易关系”。
据报道，这些州长表示，特朗普政府的关税政策“破坏”了美加关系，“不符合各州或美国的最佳利益”。
