阿夫杰耶夫卡位于顿涅茨克地区首府以北不到10公里，是乌克兰的军事重镇，也是乌军苦心经营多年的坚固堡垒地区。2014年乌克兰危机爆发后，乌军在阿夫杰耶夫卡修筑了大量工事。
当地时间2月17日，俄军已完全控制乌军重要防御枢纽阿夫杰耶夫卡市。
