太原是中国山西省的省会

that Taiyuan is the capital of China’s Shanxi Province

这真是一座美丽的城市

It’s really a beautiful city

今天我就带大家游览一下

and so today I’d like to take you

著名的汾河公园

through the city’s famous Fenhe Park

So, you can see what

makes Taiyuan a really unique city

让它成为一座宜居城市

and a great place to live

Thereis a river which stretches all the way

from the north to the south of Taiyuan city

汾河公园就是

And Fenhe Park is built along

沿着河道两岸建成的

the banks of this river on either side

这些山几乎从城市的每个角落都能望到

The mountains are visible from almost everywhere in the city

它们赋予了太原一种独特氛围

and it gives the city kind of a unique feel

就好像身处于一座山谷中

almost like being in a valley of sorts

我在这儿生活两年了

I’ve been living here for two years

经常来汾河公园

I come to this park a lot

但是我只逛过大概一半地方

I still haven’t seen probably 50% of it

公园太大了

It’s that big

跟英国的市内公园相比

So, comparetto an average inner-city park in the UK

汾河公园真的很大

it's absolutely huge

这也意味着汾河公园的环境

and this means that the living environment here

需要长久治理

needs to be constantly managed

精心设计并不断完善

improved and carefully tailored

让每个人都能各得其所

so that everybody has a place

各行其是 享受生活

where they can enjoy their chosen activities

Recently I’ve been told that there are people who

有些人到公园北部的湿地

come to the wetlands in the north of the park here

来“打鸟”

to shoot the birds

我之前从来没听说过这个

And I’ve never heard about this before

但是有人告诉我

but I’ve been told that it’s an increasingly

这个活动越来越受欢迎

popular hobby with people getting up

人们起个大早来这里“打鸟”

really early to come here and do it

所以我要去一探究竟

So, I’m gonna go and find out exactly

看看“打鸟”到底是在干什么

what do they mean that they’re“shooting the birds”here

什么样的鸟一般在这里生活

What kind of birds usually live here?

现在我们看到的在这儿生活的

As we see here now

就是一种叫作凤头鸊鷉的鸟

there is a kind of bird called podiceps cristatus

曾经路过太原的鸟

Birds traveling through Taiyuan

大约有250种左右

are about 250 kinds

你要沿着走下来就能见到

You walk down the river and you can see

很多拍鸟的

many photographers come to shoot birds

你也可以通过取景器来看看

You can look through the viewfinder

小鸟这就出来了

And it seems that

人们并没有真的在“打鸟”

they’re not really shooting birds here

这处湿地是很多鸟的家

rather, this wetland is home to all sorts of birds

所以人们来这里给鸟拍照

and so, people come to photograph them

站在湿地边上

Standing here on the wetland

观察并了解鸟儿

watching and learning about birds

很明显

it’s really clear to see

显而易见，这里的环境非常整洁

that the environment here is extremely clean

鸟儿们生活在芦苇丛中

There are birds living in the water amongst the reeds

生活在这个河中的小岛上

living on the small island in the middle of the river

并且还能看到

and lots of other

很多其它野生动物

wildlife visible too

我在太原生活两年了

I’ve lived here for two years

都不知道有这个地方

and I never knew this place existed

我还曾经走过旁边那条路

even though I’ve been on the road right by it

所以看到这里我惊讶极了

So, I was quite surprise to see it

我还惊奇地发现

and I was really surprised to see

这儿有这么多年轻人

so many young people taking part

我们见了这儿的老师兼教练

We met with the teacher and coach of the facility

他告诉我们

and he was telling us all about

小轮车在中国越来越流行

how BMX is getting more and more popular in China

这处设施让太原市在国内

and this facility has really put Taiyuan on the map

小轮车领域挺有名气

in terms of the BMX scene in the country

在这里 真正吸引人的

What really stands out is

是在一个非常繁忙的城市中

that in the middle of a really busy city

比如太原

like Taiyuan

仍有这样的宁静之地

there is still this very peaceful place

这样干净 美丽

with a very clean, beautiful

半人工半自然的公园

partly built partly natural environment

让人们可以享受这一切

that people come to enjoy

今天我们看到

The range of hobbies

这么多人们茶余饭后的消遣活动

that we've seen today

还有各种运动项目

the range of sports we've seen is testament

证明许多人都来汾河公园

to just how many people come to this park

并把它作为自己参与各种活动

and use it as the place to participate in activities

感受快乐

that make them happy

享受生活的地方

that make them have a happy life

所有这些展现了这座城市

And it really shows how this city combines

是如何将现代与传统融合

the modern and the traditional

并使其成为一个独特的城市

into a really very unique city

未来太原肯定会有更大的发展

that's certainly going to develop more in the future

我在设想

And I’m really imagining

太原过去十年就有如此大的变化

if it has changed so much in the last ten years

那么这个城市未来十年又会给我们带来什么呢

what arethe next ten years going to bring?

我现在在狼窝火山脚下

I'm here now at the foot of Langwo Volcano

这里因风光美丽而闻名

This is also part of a national park famed for its beauty

所以我真的很期待爬上这座山

So I'm really looking forward to climbing up the mountain

看看周围还有什么样的景色

having a little look at what else is around here, too.

好的 我们现在已经到达了火山的顶峰

Ok, so we've reached now the summit of the volcano

我不得不说

and I have to say

我没想到这里的风景会这么好

I was not expecting the scenery up here to be quite this good

这里郁郁葱葱四周环绕着农民的田地

It's extremely green and lush all around with farmers’fields

事实上火山群对周围的

The fact is thesevolcanoes had a substantial effect

环境产生了巨大的影响

on the surrounding environments

因为过去的火山喷发

because of past volcanic eruptions

使得这里的土壤特别肥沃

the soil around here is particularly fertile

富含锌和硒

rich of things like zinc and selenium

这些地区非常适合黄花菜的生长

which are absolutely ideal for the growing of daylilies

With this in mind, I'd really like to head back

down the mountain and take a look at

where the daylilies are actually grown

So why do we pick the flowers at night

能保证黄花的品质质量

It can ensure the quality of the daylilies

一开了花 它的品质就上不去了

Once the flower blooms, its quality will decrease

蜜蜂来了采蜜

Bees come to collect honey

花蕊 花粉就都被采走了

the stamens and pollen will all be picked up

真漂亮 我真喜欢这个工作

because I can earn moeny from this

今年收入四万多

I will makeover 40,000 yuanthis year

村里面从原来的200多亩（黄花）

There used to be only more than 200 mu of land (planting daylilies) in the village

发展到现在的4000多亩（黄花）

but now it has grown to more than 4000 mu of land (planting daylilies)

黄花产业不错

So good of this daylily industry

I kind of want to try and harvest some more flowers

or some more fruit at another time

They're really pleased with the money

No, we don’t eat flowersoften

可是我们的国家有很多花

But there are a lot of flowers in my country

We make wine out of flowers.

所以你们能用这个黄花做什么饭

So what dishes can you make withdaylilies?

可以炖肉 很好吃

We can cook meat with this flower. It’s very delicious.

We can also make salador fry eggs with it.

and bagged up the good ones.

人们似乎对他们的工作

and the people there seemed really pleased

and enthusiastic about their work

事实上这个地区开发以后

Indeed since this area was developed

人们的收入大大增加

the people's income has increased greatly

整个行业的收入也大大增加

as has the revenue of the industry as a whole

（这个产业）目前还不算发达

So it's not developed

但它一直在发展就像这里的风景

it's still developing much like the landscape around here

随着人们的生活条件

which has continuously changed along with

和收入的变化而不断变化

the people's livelihoods and fortunes.

We've kind of been through the whole process now

从采摘黄花

from picking the(day)lilies

到品尝黄花的整个过程

now to having finished eating them.

我得说

I've got to say

这让我对这个地区的黄花历史

it's given me a great appreciation

for the history of (day)lilies in this area

有了很多的了解

and the history of eating them.

事实上 这些（黄花馅）饺子很受欢迎

In fact these dumplings (with the filling of daylilies) are so popular

它们甚至曾被送上太空供中国宇航员食用

they were even eaten in space by a Chinese astronaut.

它们非常独特

They're quite unique

既因为它们的来源地

both because of where they come from

也因为这是一个新兴的产业

and the fact that this is a newly developed industry

黄花当然可以被线上销售

they can be brought obviously online

也可以在主要城市线下销售

but also offline in major cities

例如太原 北京 上海

like Taiyuan, Beijing, Shanghai

这里有100多种

There are more than 100 kinds of products

黄花衍生产品

derived from the daylilies here

这些产品被出口到了

and they're exported to places like

像加拿大、韩国和许多其他的国家

Canada, South Korea,and a great many more

在将来

In the future

我希望我在英国的家人和朋友

I hope my family and friends in the UK

都能品尝到并喜爱黄花

will also be able to eat and enjoy daylilies

我们首先了解到的是

One of the first things we learned was

黄花在这个地区

that daylilies have been cultivated in this area

已经被种植了一千多年

for more than 1,000 years

这意味着

And what that means is

它似乎浸入了当地文化的

that kind of works their way into different aspects

方方面面

of the culture around here

这对人民来说也是一种愉悦的享受

So it's certainly been enjoyable

And I think we've learned a lot.

So we've been exploring the (day)Lily industry

大同的黄花产业

here in Datong for a couple of days now

from the scale of the field behind me

As you can see

this place accounts for 25% of China's (day)Lily production

这并不奇怪

it's no surprise that

我们已经看过了火山

We've seen the volcanoes and

知道为什么黄花会在这里生长

why lilies are grown here

我们也看到了这个产业

We've also seen the recent improvements

最新的进步

in that industry

以及它是如何改善人们的

and how that's improved people's working conditions

工作和生活条件的

and indeed their living conditions as well

是如何给周边地区带来巨大的发展

And how that led a great improvement in the surrounding area

千百年来 历史循环往复

So It's great to see those hundreds of years of history

生生不息

coming full circle

仍在不断地改善着人民的生活

and now actively improving people's lives
