COPS are clamping down on 3D printers over fears gangs are using them to make GUNS.
The world s first 3D-printed pistol was created and fired in the US in May this year.
Now Home Office terror boss Charles Farr has claimed UK criminals are trying to do the same thing.
The printers, available for 1,000 on the high street, squirt out molten plastic to create detailed designs.
Tackling printable weapons is a key aim of the National Crime Agency — dubbed the British FBI — which was launched yesterday.
The NCA s strategy document warns: “We need to develop counter-measures for the imminent risk that 3D printing will facilitate the manufacture of weapons.”
Home Secretary Theresa May refused to give details of these measures — but denied there would be an outright ban on 3D printers. She said: “This is a matter that has become of increasing concern.”
Eight people were arrested yesterday under a crackdown on identity fraudsters, the first major operation led by the NCA.
