53岁的菲利普国王和40岁的马蒂尔德王后带着他们的孩子们出现在布鲁塞尔的皇宫阳台上时，1万多名祈愿者高喊“国王万岁！”
这一幕发生的两个小时前，79岁的前君主阿尔贝二世在执政20年后主动退位。
他最近一次出现在公众场合，是和新国王一起出席一场教堂仪式。
