Outset(开始)约1759年进入英语,由 out-(向外)+ set(放置、开始)复合而成,取代了较早的 outsetting。演变过程:从“出发、开始行动”直接发展为“事情的开端”义,常用于 at/from the outset(从一开始)。前缀 out-(向外,古英语 ūt);词根 set-(放置,古英语 settan,PIE sed- “坐”)
