1.祖咏《终南望余雪》

终南阴岭秀，积雪浮云端。

林表明霁色，城中增暮寒。

赏析：应试当场只写四句就交卷，答“意尽”。二十字写尽终南雪霁光影与暮寒，舍去铺陈直取神韵，被王士禛推为咏雪最佳。

Appreciation: He handed in this four-linepiece mid-examination, saying all thought was fully expressed. The twenty characterscapture snow-cleared light and dusk chill without redundant description, hailedby Wang Shizhen as the finest snow ode.

2.常建《题破山寺后禅院》：

清晨入古寺，初日照高林。

曲径通幽处，禅房花木深。

山光悦鸟性，潭影空人心。

万籁此俱寂，但余钟磬音

赏析：仕途失意寄情山水，无主流派包袱。“曲径通幽处，禅房花木深”以极静之笔写透禅意空寂，视听相生，成中国古典美学“幽深”范本。

Appreciation：Frustrated by his official career, Chang Jian devoted himself tolandscapes, unbound by the limitations of mainstream literary schools. Thecouplet “Winding paths lead to a quiet hidden space,Where blooms and trees wrap round the meditation place”conveys serene Chan emptiness through tranquil imagery, blending visual andauditory sensations. It has become a classic model of the “secluded beauty” in Chinese classicalaesthetics.

3.李涉《题鹤林寺僧舍》

终日昏昏醉梦间，忽闻春尽强登山。

因过竹院逢僧话，偷得浮生半日闲。

赏析：身处贬谪颠沛，偶遇僧人闲谈顿悟。“偷得浮生半日闲”道尽古今奔波者共通的疲惫与释然，语言浅白却哲理穿透，极易口口相传。

Appreciation：Exiled and wandering through turbulent years, Li She gained suddenenlightenment after chatting with a monk. The line “Stealinghalf a day of peace from bustling mortal life”expresses the shared weariness and relief of all toiling people across ages.Written in plain language yet brimming with profound philosophy, it has beenwidely recited for generations.

4.于良史《春山夜月》

春山多胜事，赏玩夜忘归。

掬水月在手，弄花香满衣。

兴来无远近，欲去惜芳菲。

南望鸣钟处，楼台深翠微。

赏析：存诗不多，仅写眼前景不堆砌典故。“掬水月在手，弄花香满衣”以通感把玩月弄花的刹那灵动写到极致，清新如画，无人不记。

Moonlit Night on Spring Hills

Appreciation：Yu Liangshi left only a small body of poems, all depicting immediatescenery without overloading allusions. The couplet “Iscoop the stream, the moon rests in my palm; I stroke blooms soft, theirfragrance coats my arm” uses synesthesia to capture thefleeting, vivid delight of playing with moonlight and flowers. Fresh andpicturesque, this couplet is memorized by countless Chinese reader.

5.王建《十五夜望月寄杜郎中》

中庭地白树栖鸦，冷露无声湿桂花。

今夜月明人尽望，不知秋思落谁家？

赏析：长期沉沦下僚深谙民间情味。“不知秋思落谁家”以疑问替天下游子问月，将地白栖鸦的冷寂化为普世乡愁，中秋必诵。

Appreciation：Havinglong served low-ranking posts, Wang Jian thoroughly understood the sentimentsof common folk. The rhetorical line “Whose heart bearsautumn longing’s gentle blight?” speaks for all wanderers gazing at the moon, turning the bleakscene of pale courtyard and roosting crows into universal homesickness. Thispoem is a staple recitation for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

6.一说为杜秋娘所作《金缕衣》

劝君莫惜金缕衣，劝君惜取少年时。

花开堪折直须折，莫待无花空折枝。

赏析：身世坎坷歌伎出身，非士大夫雅言。叠句往复、直白警策，“花开堪折直须折”以花喻时劝惜少年，无生僻字却戳中人生易逝的本能焦虑。

The Gold-Threaded Robe

Do not prize your robe stitched withthreads of gold;

Cherish the youthful years ere they growold.

Pluck blooms while they are fresh and fullyblown;

Wait not till bare boughs leave you grievingalone.

Appreciation：DuQiuniang was a songstress with a rough life, and her verses differ from theelegant writing of scholar-officials. Repetitive and sharply cautionary, theline “Pluck blooms while they are fresh and fully blown” uses flowers as a metaphor for fleeting youth. Written in simplevocabulary, it strikes a universal anxiety about the transience of human life.

7.韩翃《寒食》

春城无处不飞花，寒食东风御柳斜。

日暮汉宫传蜡烛，轻烟散入五侯家。

赏析：大历十才子中不突出者，借汉喻唐写宫廷细节。“春城无处不飞花”五字绘出长安盛世烟火，轻烟散入五侯家又暗藏含蓄讽刺，画面感极强。

Cold Food Festival

All through spring town, flying blossomsfill the air;

East winds slope palace willows on ColdFood Fair.

At dusk, palace candles pass through Han’s old hall,

Thin smoke drifts into nobles’ mansions one and all.

Appreciation：Among the Ten Talents of Dali, Han Hong was less prominent. Heborrowed the Han Dynasty as a metaphor for the Tang court to depict subtlepalace scenes. The five-character line “All through spring town, flyingblossoms fill the air” paints the prosperous bustle of Chang’an, while thesubsequent line carries veiled satire toward privileged nobles, creatingstrikingly vivid imagery.

8. 张祜《宫词》

故国三千里，深宫二十年。

一声何满子，双泪落君前。

赏析：一生未显达，长期漂泊，冷眼凝视深宫。“故国三千里，深宫二十年”用数字暴力对比离乡与幽闭，一声何满子双泪落下，把宫怨血泪压缩进二十字。

Palace Lament

One strain of Hemanshu starts to unfold—

Two streams of tears fall down before the throneyou behold.

Appreciation：Zhang Hu never attained high official rank and wandered for most ofhis life, observing the palace with a detached eye. The couplet “Three thousand li lie twixt me and my hometown; Twenty years trappedwithin this palace ground” uses sharp numericalcontrast to highlight exile and confinement. A single tune of Hemanshu triggerstears, condensing all the sorrow of palace ladies into merely twentycharacters.

9. 高蟾《金陵晚望》

曾伴浮云归晚翠，犹陪落日泛秋声。

世间无限丹青手，一片伤心画不成。

赏析：晚唐落魄，满目山河破碎之痛。“一片伤心画不成”翻空出奇，说尽丹青难绘的国破家亡之悲，把抽象“伤心”砸成具象绝叹。

Dusk View at Jinling

Though painters fill the world with skilleddesign,

No brush can paint this heavy grief ofmine.

Appreciation：Living in destitution in the late Tang Dynasty, Gao Chan bore deepgrief over the crumbling realm. The line “No brush canpaint this heavy grief of mine” delivers an ingenious,unprecedented insight: no painting can capture the agony of a fallen nation,turning abstract sorrow into a tangible, stirring cry.

10. 秦韬玉《贫女》

蓬门未识绮罗香，拟托良媒益自伤。

谁爱风流高格调，共怜时世俭梳妆。

敢将十指夸针巧，不把双眉斗画长。

苦恨年年压金线，为他人作嫁衣裳。

赏析：出身寒素，仕途多舛。“为他人作嫁衣裳”双关寒士怀才不遇与贫女针黹，一句成千古打工者自嘲成语，共鸣跨越阶层时代。

The Poor Maiden

Born in a humble hut, I know no silk’s sweet scent;

I seek a matchmaker, yet grief within me pent.

Who values noble grace and plain unadornedface?

Few love plain dress amid this vain, gaudyrace.

I boast my deft ten fingers’ stitching art,

Nor paint long brows to play the coquettishpart.

Year after year I weave gold threads inpain,

Weaving wedding robes for girls I cannotgain.

Appreciation：Bornto a poor family, Qin Taoyu suffered repeated setbacks in officialdom. The line“Weaving wedding robes for girls I cannot gain” bears a double meaning: it describes the maiden’s needlework and also laments unrecognized talent of impoverishedscholars. This line has become an enduring idiom for hardworking people whoseefforts benefit others, resonating across all social classes and eras.

11. 王湾《次北固山下》

客路青山外， 行舟绿水前。

潮平两岸阔， 风正一帆悬。

海日生残夜， 江春入旧年。

乡书何处达？ 归雁洛阳边。

赏析：仅存诗十余首，盛唐初期的边缘诗人。“海日生残夜，江春入旧年”以新生破旧时光的哲理震撼当时，宰相张说挂于政事堂，成区分初盛唐的标杆句。

Mooring at the Foot of North Gu Mountain

To Luoyang, bearing my homesicknessblessed.

Appreciation：Wang Wan left only around ten poems and was a marginal poet in earlyTang. The couplet “Above the sea, the sun breaksthrough last night; Spring creeps into the year still out of sight” stunned contemporaries with its philosophy of new life emergingamid the old. Prime Minister Zhang Shuo hung this verse in his government hall,and it has become a landmark line distinguishing early and flourishing Tangpoetry.

12. 崔郊《赠去婢》

公子王孙逐后尘，绿珠垂泪滴罗巾。

侯门一入深如海，从此萧郎是路人。

赏析：仅存这一首，生平近乎空白。“侯门一入深如海，从此萧郎是路人”用海喻权势、路人写诀别，把门第阻隔的爱情绝望写成社会通用痛感。

To the Handmaid Taken by Noble House

Noble lords crowd to chase her gracefulpassing trace,

Like Green Pearl, her tears stain her silkkerchief's soft lace.

Once within noble gates, depths outmatchocean’s space;

Her former love turns stranger, severed byrank’s embrace.

Appreciation：This is Cui Jiao’s sole surviving poem, andalmost no records of his life remain. The couplet “Oncepast the noble gate’s unyielding tide, Her oldsweetheart becomes a stranger wide” uses an ocean as ametaphor for powerful aristocratic households, and “stranger” to depict permanent separation. It expresses the universal despairof love torn apart by class barriers.

13. 张继《枫桥夜泊》

月落乌啼霜满天，江枫渔火对愁眠。

姑苏城外寒山寺，夜半钟声到客船。

赏析：安史乱后流寓江南的失眠客。“夜半钟声到客船”以声衬静，把乱世游子愁熔进月落乌啼霜满天，造就寒山寺文化IP，中日传诵，影响深远。

Mooring at Maple Bridge by Night

Beyond old Gusu’swall, lone Hanshan Temple stands,

Its midnight bell drifts where my lonelyboat strands.

Appreciation：After the Anshi Rebellion, Zhang Ji wandered south of the Yangtze, asleepless wanderer. The line “Its midnight bell driftsto my wandering boat’s strands”uses sound to amplify silence, merging the sorrow of war refugees into thebleak scene of setting moon, crows and frost. This poem made Cold MountainTemple a timeless cultural symbol, widely recited in both China and Japan withlasting influence.

14. 陈陶《陇西行》

誓扫匈奴不顾身，五千貂锦丧胡尘。

可怜无定河边骨，犹是春闺梦里人。

赏析：在边塞诗巨匠如岑参、高适的盛名之下，陈陶此作相对被低估。“无定河边骨”对“春闺梦里人”的生死时空撕裂，把战争残酷与闺梦温柔一刀切开，悲剧张力千年震悚。

Still loved husbands in their wives’ spring dreams of yore.

Appreciation：Overshadowed by frontier poetry masters like Cen Shen and Gao Shi,Chen Tao and this work have long been underrated. The stark contrast between “bones along Wuding River’s shore” and “loved husbands in their wives’ spring dreams” creates a devastating riftbetween life and death, time and space. It brutally juxtaposes the cruelty ofwar with tender domestic longing, bearing an overwhelming tragic power thatmoves readers a thousand years later.
