英国外交大臣伊维特·库珀于周四与哈萨克斯坦签署了关键矿产合作协议，与此同时英国正在推进其关键矿产资源来源多样化计划。此前，英国政府在其去年发布的《关键矿产战略》中指出，哈萨克斯坦生产的36种矿产中有22种是报告中认定的对英国至关重要的必需矿产。
