“APEC in Shenzhen next year will be a great occasion to demonstrate China's commitment to reform and opening up,” said Eric Zheng, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, as China prepares to host the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Shenzhen of Guangdong Province next November.
“China now is the second largest economy in the world and is playing a leading role in promoting continued globalization process,” Zheng said. The world has changed quite a bit, and China can play “a very positive role” in continuing to push for globalization and multilateral trading system. The next APEC meeting to be held in Shenzhen will be very important to “showcase China's leadership,” he added.
According to a recent survey, member companies of AmCham Shanghai have seen positive improvements in many areas, primarily in regulatory transparency, intellectual property protection, cross-border data management, and government procurement. “China is making great progress in terms of business environment,” Zheng noted, as China's open and inclusive market is extremely attractive to foreign companies.
