场景的迷人之处,在于建筑师虽然只能用砖瓦、木石、金属、玻璃等坚实的素材,来从事实质的构筑游戏,却能藉此创造触动人心的空间,并能进一步无止尽地深入探索似乎不可捉摸的文化价值、场所精神、共通的人性等丰富意涵。

“亲爱的校长,校园的草坪容易滑倒,学校能为我们更换新的吗?”

“亲爱的校长,随着OCAC壮大,学校是否有思考丰富孩子们的运动空间?”

“亲爱的校长,在OCAC每天都有奇思妙想,我们的共创空间是否可以升级?”

于是,今年三月第二个行政会主题:教育,我们得先听见OCACers想要什么?

两周后,一卷《场景美学》提上日程:图书馆不是仓库,是思想的会客厅;主席台不是权威,是会发光的舞台;“18号小屋”不是边角料,是共同体的第三空间......





开工:愿望清单排上日程


入门:惊喜

空间场景改造,这不仅仅是一项技术工作,更是一场艺术与实用并重的创意之旅。它涵盖了从空间规划到细节处理的所有环节,将无限的创意和想象力注入每一寸空间,让每一处都散发出独特的美感和实用性。

暑期的OCAC,在蝉鸣中生长出了全新的模样——南门兼具线条感与温度的新门头,不再是功能性的入口,而是像一双张开的手臂,用现代设计的韵律迎送每个孩子的清晨与日落;西门为幼儿园打造的专属入口,以简洁干净的白色与低矮的尺度,守护着低龄孩童迈出独立探索的第一步。




改造后的南门和西门

我们重新梳理了校园的动线,让孩子们的嬉笑与步履各有专属路径,既避免了人流的交错,又让不同年龄段的成长节奏都能被尊重。这是一个充满人文的举措,需要我们以全新的视角去审视和思考,让空间成为无声的教育者。


图书馆:气韵

图书馆,是记录、是传承、是传播、是分享;亦是:为校园立传。正因为我们无比珍视OCAC少年青春里流淌的岁月,才对场景如此审慎与满怀向往。

中学部图书馆几经搬迁,如今它终于有了归属:关联,让书放在离孩子们最近的地方。它绝非传统意义的藏书,而是强调建立人与知识的关联;营造同伴之间联络场所的同时,透过IB的独特理念关联“过往”和“当下”,“中华”和“国际”。最终,内化为OCAC少年心底收藏的“独家记忆”。

教师发展中心的黄圆晴博士说,图书馆每一面墙都应属于孩子们的探索的空间,我希望的不是教师去打造每一个场景,更多需要孩子们迈入知识的海洋,一起去描绘、去创造、去书写藏在时光里的气韵。




中学部新图书馆搬家啦

对于OCAC来说,重塑图书馆空间来表达并强调所秉承的价值,与用教学来彰显自己的教育理念同等重要。我们用“实用主义”与“长期主义”来培养与形成属于OCAC的文化内涵。


运动场:情绪

你有多久没有留心观察你所身处的环境?实用可能只关注到了功能的部分。然而,我们又该如何解释,为什么学校需要费尽心力用独特的理念和体育空间来重塑我们的环境呢?

小学部的窗外新近添置的攀爬架、秋千与滑梯,不只是“器材”,而是一片被放大的天地;中学部的内场伫立着一个宝箱,里面藏着雪地与挑战;室内体育馆翻新的不是硬件,而是托举每一个少年奔腾身影的安全港湾;就连操场新筑的主席台,也不是发号施令的高台,而是少年成长的闪亮与无限荣光。

运动场的跑道其实是一条“莫比乌斯环”,据说跑完 800 米会回到原点,但心情已经不在原点。无论白日与黑夜,全新的跑道承接的不仅是体能的锻炼,更是少年情绪的安放。有人说,少年的青春里,有人狂奔,有人散步,有人悄悄哭泣但故事留在了风里。




改造后的部分运动场地

今年暑假,校园的每块运动空间完成了一场静默的“课程设计”:它教速度,也教停顿;教竞争,也教共享;教胜利,更教给胜利一个可以安放的地方。


“18号小屋”:关系

丹麦作家凯伦·布里克森在《走出非洲》里说:咖啡的苦味里,有土地、雨水和未驯服的灵魂。兆佳巷“18号小屋”,是咖啡吧,是第三空间,是不被定义。

2000组家长、400教职员工、无数关注OCAC的社会各界,我想:总要存在这样一个地方,它舒适、安全,是你想要回归真实自我时需要的所在。这里被允许“情绪自由”,每个人都可以自由思考、创作、恢复和坦诚。

当然,这个地方也不需要太过具体的「定义」,它不是某个特定的物件,而是对于生活的愿景,这种愿景大多是变化且抽象的。当内在的精神追求与“18号小屋”相遇,空间就不仅仅是物理维度的展现,它是人们情感交流、思想碰撞和生活体验的舞台。

未来,一场家校对话、一场学术交流、一场品牌联名、一场特定节日的狂欢,可以在这个空间被无限延展。每一个与之发生关联的人、物、空间都将作为故事的参与者甚至创造者。





咖啡吧,第三空间......

《咖啡馆比其他河流更慢》中讲到咖啡馆是一个时间流速很慢的地方,在“18号小屋”你可以取得一杯咖啡,或倚靠于沙发,或对窗而坐,随意或严肃取决你来到这里的目的,通过“外在”和“内里”与人产生对话,让空间与人能够建立良性的交流循环体系。

场景不急于表达宏大的形式,而更注重人与之间的关系流动。学校场景重塑的整体气质被设定为有机且具穿透感的存在,拥有时间的沉淀感,也给予教育适度的空白与留白。

像耶鲁、牛津等世界顶尖大学都有着庄重优雅的空间语言,但并非为了表面文章。如果你深入地观察,你会发现故事的另一面。

场景为教育的美而存在,还是教育为场景的美而存在?

OCAC没有标准答案。

但我们知道:最好的OCAC,是当你离开它时,才发现自己把一部分留在了这里——可能是书页,可能是跑道,也可能是青春里未能翻开的悸动情愫。

The allure of scenarios lies in the fact that while architects can only use solid materials such as bricks, timber, metal, and glass to engage in tangible construction games, they can nonetheless create spaces that touch people's hearts and further delve endlessly into the rich connotations of seemingly elusive cultural values, the spirit of places, and universal humanity.

"Dear Principal, the lawn on campus is slippery. Can the school replace it with a new one for us?"

"Dear Principal, as OCAC grows, has the school considered enriching the children's sports spaces?"


"Dear Principal, we have wild ideas every day at OCAC. Can our collaborative space be upgraded?"

Thus, the theme of the second administrative meeting this March: In education, we must first listen to what OCACers want.

Two weeks later, the discussion on aesthetics of scenario was put on the agenda: The library is not a warehouse, but a parlor for thought; the podium is not an emblem of authority, but a shining stage; "House No. 18" is not a leftover space, but a third space for the community...





Kick-off: Put the wish list on the calendar


Entrance: A Pleasant Surprise

Transforming spatial scenarios is not merely a technical task but also a creative journey that combines artistry with practicality. It encompasses all aspects from spatial planning to detail handling, infusing boundless creativity and imagination into every inch of space and making each area exude unique beauty and functionality.

During the summer break, OCAC took on a brand-new look amidst the chirping of cicadas. The new South Gate, with its blend of linearity and warmth, is no longer just a functional entrance but resembles a pair of outstretched arms, welcoming and bidding farewell to each child with the rhythm of modern design during their mornings and evenings. The West Gate, designed exclusively for the kindergarten, features a simple and clean white color scheme with a low profile, safeguarding the first steps of young children towards independent exploration.

We have reorganized the campus circulation routes, ensuring that children's laughter and footsteps have their dedicated paths, avoiding the intersection of pedestrian flows and respecting the growth rhythms of different age groups. This is a humanistic measure that requires us to view and think from a fresh perspective, allowing space to become a silent educator.


Library: Vitality and Charm

The library is a place for recording, preservation and transmission, dissemination, and sharing; it is also a chronicler of the campus. Because we cherish the years that flow through the youth of OCAC students, we approach scenarios with such caution and longing.

After several relocations, the secondary school library has finally found its home: connection, placing books closest to the children. It is not merely a traditional collection of books but emphasizes establishing connections between people and knowledge; while creating a place for companions to connect, it also links the "past" and the "present," as well as "China" and the "international community," through the unique philosophy of the IB program. Ultimately, it becomes an "exclusive memory" cherished in the hearts of OCAC youth.

Dr. Huang Yuanqing from the Professional Development Center, said that every wall of the library should belong to the children's space for exploration. She hopes that it is not the teachers who create every scenario but rather the children who step into the ocean of knowledge to jointly depict, create, and write the vitality and charm hidden in time.

For OCAC, reshaping library space to express and emphasize its adhered values is as important as using teaching to demonstrate its educational philosophy. We cultivate and form cultural connotations unique to OCAC through "pragmatism" and "long-termism."


Sports Field: Emotions

How long has it been since you last paid attention to your surroundings? Practicality may only focus on functionality. However, how can we explain why schools need to go to great lengths to reshape our environment with unique concepts and sports spaces?

The newly installed climbing frames, swings, and slides outside the primary school windows are not just "equipment" but an expanded realm; a treasure chest stands in the secondary school's inner court, hiding snowy landscapes and challenges; the renovated indoor gymnasium is not just about upgrading hardware but providing a safe haven that supports every youthful leap; even the newly built podium on the playground is not a platform for issuing orders but a stage for the youth's growth and boundless glory.

The running track on the sports field is a "Möbius strip." It is said that after running 800 meters, you return to the starting point, but your mood is no longer the same. Whether day or night, the new track not only supports physical training but also serves as a place for youthful emotions to find solace. Some say that in the youth of teenagers, some sprint, some stroll, and some silently cry, but their stories remain in the wind.

This summer, every sports space on campus completed a silent "curriculum design": it teaches speed and pause; it teaches competition and sharing; it teaches victory and, more importantly, provides a place for victory to rest.


"House No. 18": Relationships

Danish author Karen Blixen said in Out of Africa: "In the bitterness of coffee, there is the taste of the earth, rain, and untamed souls." Zhaojia Xiang "House No. 18" can be a coffee bar, a third space, or something undefined.

With 2,000 groups of parents, 400 faculty and staff members, and countless individuals from various sectors of society paying attention to OCAC, there must be such a place that is comfortable and safe, a haven where you can return to your true self. Here, "emotional freedom" is allowed, and everyone can think freely, create, recover, and be candid.

Of course, this place does not need to be too specifically "defined." It is not a particular object but a vision for life, which is mostly changeable and abstract. When the inner spiritual pursuit meets "House No. 18," space is no longer just a physical manifestation; it becomes a stage for emotional exchange, intellectual collision, and life experiences.

In the future, a home-school dialogue, an academic exchange, a brand collaboration, or a celebration of a specific festival can be infinitely extended in this space. Every person, object, and space associated with it will become a participant or even a creator of stories.





Coffee Bar – Your Third Space

As mentioned in Cafés Are Slower Than Other Rivers, a café is a place where time flows slowly. In "House No. 18," you can get a cup of coffee, lean against the sofa, or sit by the window. Whether you are casual or serious depends on your purpose for coming here. Through dialogue with the "external" and the "internal," a benign communication cycle system can be established between space and people.

Scenarios do not rush to express grand forms but focus more on the flowing relationships between people. The overall temperament of the school's scenario reshaping is set to be organic and penetrating, possessing a sense of time's sedimentation while also providing education with appropriate blank spaces.

Like world-renowned universities such as Yale and Oxford, which boast solemn and elegant spatial languages, they do not do so for superficial reasons. If you observe closely, you will discover another side of the story.

Do scenarios exist for the beauty of education, or does education exist for the beauty of scenarios?


OCAC has no standard answer.

But we know this: The best of OCAC is when you leave it and realize that you have left a part of yourself here—perhaps a page from a book, perhaps the running track, or perhaps the fluttering emotions of youth that were never fully explored.
