作为创校生,我从一年级开始便在无锡协和就读,在这个学校度过了小初高完整的12年。我从来都不是传统意义上的学霸,小初阶段,成绩一直不算拔尖,在一个人数不超过30人的班级,当时大家憧憬的学霸的象征—— Highest Academic Achievement(学习之星),我一次都没有拿到过。我的性格内向而腼腆,在最初的课堂上,不敢发言,也不善于表达自己的观点。但是,我记得彼时的我依然每天都很期待去学校,因为学校丰富的课程和活动,学习的过程充满了好奇和探索,让我着迷且充满收获感。不断鼓励和支持我的老师和同学们,也让我倍感温暖。
直到初中阶段,我开始主动寻找突破自我的机会。一次偶然的契机,我报名参加了学校的模拟联合国会议。起初,我连起草一份立场文件都感到困难,发言时声音小到几乎听不见。但在学科老师Ms. Wilson和学长学姐的耐心指导下,积极参与了小组讨论,她们逐字逐句地帮我修改草案,纠正发言措辞、语调,经过几次会议的锻炼,我从一开始的拘谨到能够自信地站在大会上陈述自己的立场,从加入校模联社到一步步成为主席,并在北京的一场会议中获得了“最佳代表”奖项。那一刻,我意识到,原来自己也可以在学术和表达上有所成就,这份自信让我逐渐敢于尝试更多挑战。

During my early studies on the campus, I lacked self-confidence. Since Grade 1, my academic performance in both primary and middle school was never outstanding. In a class of just around 30 students, I was never once awarded the coveted "Highest Academic Achievement" — a symbol of academic excellence everyone looked up to. Back then, I was timid. In fully English-speaking classrooms, I dared not speak up.However, I remember at that time, I still looked forward to going to school every day because of the rich curriculum and activities, and the learning process was full of curiosity and exploration, which fascinated me and gave me a sense of accomplishment. Continuously encouraging and supporting my teachers and classmates also makes me feel warm.
Everything began to change in middle school when I actively sought opportunities to break out of my comfort zone. One day, I signed up for the school’s Model United Nations (MUN) conference almost on a whim. At first, I struggled to even draft a resolution paper, and my voice was barely audible when I spoke. Fortunately, I received patient guidance from my humanities teacher, Ms. Wilson, and elder students. They helped me revise my speech, corrected my tone and wording, and encouraged me to engage more during group discussions. After several rounds of practice, I gradually grew from a timid delegate into a confident public speaker. I eventually became president of the school’s MUN club and even won the “Best Delegate” award at a conference in Beijing. That was the first time I realized I could truly shine in academics and communication. That growing sense of confidence opened doors to many more challenges and opportunities.
我开始主动参与更多活动,并尝试在学术上不断突破自己,在老师们一如既往的支持下,我在IGCSE考试中取得了7A*1A的成绩。学期期末收获的一张张学术奖状,以及十年级时学校授予我的校长奖学金也让我相信,自己可以在学术上走得更远。进入IB阶段后,我选修了高阶英语B、数学AA和经济学,并最终以44分(满分45分)的预估成绩完成IB课程。在这个过程中,我始终感激11年级数学老师Mr. Boniface对我的悉心指导,面对数学AA这门难度极高的课程,他不厌其烦地为我讲解复杂的数学知识,并鼓励我参加耶鲁数学竞赛,尽管最终并没有收获奖牌,但他告诉我:“勇于挑战本身就值得骄傲。”正是这种来自老师的支持和激励,让我在学术上不断成长。当然,现任数学老师Dr. Bonsu也让我受益匪浅,我们常常在一起讨论有关金融的话题和国际时事。记得在课后一次关于期权估值的探讨中,我们讨论得尤为激烈,以至于我们最后都错过了午饭。Dr. Bonsu为我撰写的推荐信也对我的大学申请起到了关键的作用,他以老师的视角展现了我对知识求之若渴的品质。

As my self-confidence grew, I began to push myself further, both academically and in extracurriculars. Under the dedicated guidance of my teachers, I achieved 7A*s and 1A in my IGCSE exams. The academic awards I received at the end of each semester and the Principal’s Scholarship award in G10 served as further affirmation that I could go far in academics. In the IB Diploma Programme, I chose HL English B, HL Math AA, and HL Economics, eventually earning a predicted score of 44/45. I am particularly grateful to my Grade 11 math teacher, Mr. Boniface, who patiently explained challenging concepts in our extremely rigorous Math AA class. He encouraged me to participate in the Yale Math Competition. Even though I didn’t win any prizes, he reminded me, “Daring to challenge yourself is an achievement in itself.” That support motivated me to persevere. My current math teacher, Dr. Bonsu, has also greatly impacted my journey. We often engage in deep discussions about finance and global affairs. I vividly remember an intense lunchtime conversation we had on options pricing — we were so absorbed in it that we forgot to eat. In hindsight, the recommendation letter Dr. Bonsu later wrote for me became a powerful part of my college application, capturing my intellectual curiosity from a teacher’s point of view.
与此同时,我也在课外活动中不断寻找着自我价值。高中阶段,我创立了学校第一个经济金融社团,我带领社员们一起探究了中国小贩经济和一些有趣的真实经济学案例。之后,我们一起学习了债权估值,终、现值量化等有关公司和心理金融学的基础知识。我还给组员们讲授了CAPM,EPT等投资模型,辅导同学们建立自己的投资模型,加深了他们对金融投资的理解、激发了兴趣。此外,在公益活动上,我还发起并组织了“陪伴星星”的慈善音乐会,与乐队成员们在舞台上演出,最终筹集了7000元人民币赠给了本地自闭症儿童群体。我还通过后续与孤独症儿童进一步的接触和陪伴,深刻理解了个人价值与社会责任相结合的意义。
在学业之外,运动和音乐始终是我生活中不可或缺的一部分。初中时,我跟随父亲一起开始了户外健身,繁忙的学习之余,坚持锻炼,我们从一开始的两人小团体逐渐发展到一个已有数十人的社群。此外,我多次在校内外坚持参加大大小小的马拉松活动,对我来说,跑步不仅是我每一次失利、沮丧后“关机重启”的机会,它更是一种突破自我的媒介。在12年级上学期时,我报名参加了蠡湖半程马拉松,在冲过终点线的一刹那,一种熟悉的感觉席卷全身,那是身体与意志在磨练后的爆发,这种坚韧不拔的精神也潜移默化地渗透到了我的学习和生活中。
我对音乐的热情也丝毫不输给运动。十年如一日的吉他练习不但使我习得了一技之长,于我而言,这更是一种心灵上的成长。我学会了在舞台上自信地表达自我,演奏时的专注与热情也让我在学术和生活中更加坚定与投入。同时,音乐也是我大学申请中一片重要的拼图。通过提交自己的指弹作品集,我能脱离出单调的文字描述性,并向招生官展现更为立体的形象。

Besides academics, I found purpose and meaning through various activities. In high school, I founded the school’s first Economics and Finance club. I led club members in exploring topics such as China’s hawker economy and behavioral finance. I introduced them to the fundamentals of financial modeling, including present value calculations and bond pricing, and guided them through building their own investment models. Beyond academics, I also launched a charity concert project called ‘Friends of Stars’, where I performed on stage with fellow band members and raised 7,000 RMB for children with autism. This project continued with regular volunteer work, during which I deeply experienced the value of combining personal passion with social responsibility.
Fitness and music have always been essential parts of my life. In secondary, I began doing street workouts with my father. Over time, our two-person workout evolved into a fitness community of dozens. Despite my academic commitments, I’ve consistently made time for exercise. I’ve also participated in several marathons and running events. For me, running is more than just a way to stay healthy — it’s how I reset after setbacks and frustrations. In the first semester of Grade 12, I ran the Lihu Lake Half Marathon. When I crossed the finish line, I was overwhelmed by a familiar feeling — a rush of strength born from the struggle of body and will. That same resilience has carried over into all aspects of my life.
My passion for music is just as strong. I’ve practiced guitar for more than a decade. It’s not only a skill I’ve honed but also a meaningful part of my identity. Performing on stage has taught me to express myself with confidence, and the concentration and joy I feel while playing have helped me stay grounded in both academic and personal pursuits. Music even played a role in my college applications: by submitting a portfolio of fingerstyle guitar performances, I was able to show a fuller version of myself beyond written descriptions.
确定未来方向与逐梦之路
在明确了自己对金融和经济的热爱后,我开始着手准备升学。在高二暑假,我参加了纽约大学(NYU)的夏校项目。在曼哈顿的纽大校园,我第一次感受到身处全球金融中心的魅力,也让我坚定了尝试申请Stern商学院的决心。我渴望在这样一个充满活力的城市里,学习顶尖的商科课程,参与金融项目,将课堂知识应用于现实世界。
在学校升学导师的帮助下,我全力准备申请材料。在文书和简历撰写过程中,Rachel老师引导我将自己在慈善音乐会、金融科研和模联等活动中的经历与成长融入其中,展现我在学术之外的坚持与热爱。最终,我在早申中被NYU Stern商学院录取,实现了自己的梦想。
十二年的协和生涯,让曾经内向懵懂的我成长为一个自信、勇敢且敢于追梦的人。从第一次在模联上的紧张发言,到在慈善音乐会的舞台上从容演奏,每一步成长都离不开老师们的引导和支持。我由衷地感谢每一位在我成长路上给予帮助的老师,正是他们让我相信,自己的潜力远比想象中更强大。
未来,我将带着在协和收获的自信与坚持,奔赴纽约,继续追逐自己的梦想。我希望在NYU Stern商学院里,将经济与金融知识付诸实践,不断探索与成长,最终成为一名能够为社会带来积极影响的商业领袖。

Once I identified my passion for finance and economics, I started preparing for university. During the summer of Grade 11, I participated in a pre-college program at New York University (NYU). Walking through the NYU campus in Manhattan, I felt the energy of being in the heart of the global financial world. That experience solidified my dream of applying to the Stern School of Business. I aspired to study in a vibrant city, take rigorous business courses, participate in finance projects, and apply what I learned to the real world.
With the support of my school counselor, I began preparing my application. Ms. Rachel helped me refine my essays and resume, encouraging me to integrate my experiences — from the charity concert to my research and MUN journey — into a cohesive story of growth and dedication. In the end, I was fortunate to be accepted to NYU Stern during the Early Decision round — a dream come true.
Twelve years at WUIS have shaped me into someone confident, courageous, and unafraid to chase big dreams. From my first nervous speech at MUN to calmly performing at a charity concert, every step of growth has been made possible by the guidance of my teachers and the support of my school community. I am truly grateful to everyone who believed in me and helped me realize that I am stronger and more capable than I ever imagined.
Looking ahead, I will carry the confidence and perseverance I gained at WUIS to New York City as I continue to pursue my dreams. At NYU Stern, I hope to apply my knowledge of economics and finance to real-world challenges, grow through experience, and ultimately become a business leader who can make a meaningful impact on the world.
