What makes Concordia’s extracurricular activities (ECAs) truly stand out? Beyond the wide range of offerings that include literacy, STEM, fine arts, sports, and service, most are led by our dedicated faculty. What also sets the program apart is the involvement of high school students who design and lead ECAs for younger learners. Whether it’s dance, art, or science, these future leaders are inspiring the Concordia community. Where high schoolers lead, everyone learns and grows!
Sharing the Passion & Serving the Community
· CALICO
Since the 2023-2024 school year, high school students Iris L., Mian Z., and Katrina Y. (Class of 2026) have been leading the CALICO ECA for elementary students passionate about art and animals. Through watercolor, colored pencil, and oil pastel projects, students explore their artistic talents while learning the value of service. Last year, the group partnered with an NGO to raise funds in support of stray animals in Shanghai.

· Science Explorers
Inspired by a childhood memory of learning about insulation through an ice cream experiment, high school student Hana R. (Class of 2026) teamed up with Sophie Y. (Class of 2025) and Sieun I. (Class of 2026) to launch the Science Explorers ECA. In their sessions, they’ve led fun experiments like making ice cream and erupting volcanoes with vinegar and baking soda, teaching basic chemistry and physics principles in an engaging way to the 3rd-5th graders.
The highlight was the final session, where the ECA leaders set up three interactive stations for the younger kids to explore. They learned about static electricity with balloons, made volcanoes erupt, and even created their own artwork using milk, dish soap, and food coloring. It was a blast!
· PAVE
Finding one’s interests and talents isn’t always straightforward—and that’s where PAVE comes in. Created by Christine K. and Nico W. (Class of 2028), PAVE (Paths of Activities through Visioning and Empathy) offers younger students a fun, hands-on way to explore fields like art, finance, and architecture.

Each session invites students to dive into interactive projects such as product design challenges, investment games, and marshmallow tower building, turning curiosity into discovery.
“What I’ve liked most is listening to the kids’ ideas, which are very creative and full of imagination,” shares Nico. “For one project, we asked them to design a pen, and many came up with amazing ideas like a pen that can fly to you if you forget it, or one that helps you do your homework, and so on!”
· Contemporary Dance, Let’s Dance, Kids Hip-hop
In the dance studio, Ayana C. (Class of 2027) and Annie L. (Class of 2026) have been sharing their passion for dance with younger students through a lively series of ECAs: Contemporary Dance, and Let’s Dance (led by Ayana); Kids Hip-hop (led by Annie). The sessions were such a hit, the kids didn’t want to leave the room!
Building Connections & Growing Leadership
Leading these ECAs has been a meaningful experience for the high schoolers as well, offering opportunities for personal growth and a new perspective on working with younger students.
“It’s been delightful to see the students engaging in their mini experiments and sharing their discoveries with their parents,” says Hana R. (Class of 2026), one of the student leaders of the Science Explorers ECA.
“I’ve also enhanced my patience and leadership skills, as leading an elementary school ECA requires adaptability and understanding. Moreover, this experience really has deepened my appreciation for teaching.”
Student leader of the Contemporary Dance and Let’s Dance ECAs, Ayana C. (Class of 2027), has learned the importance of communication and connection between the school community.
“Whether it was explaining the mechanics behind a technical move or building relationships with the kids, the ECA experiences were immensely meaningful and valuable—not only as a way of sharing my passion, but also an opportunity to connect with more people in the Concordia community,” she states.

· CALICO

–– Zoe W.,5年级
· Science Explorers
· PAVE
高中生Christine K.和Nico W.(2028届)一起开设了一门关于兴趣探索的ECA课程——PAVE(Paths of Activities through Visioning and Empathy),为年轻学生提供接触艺术、金融、建筑等不同领域的机会。

· Contemporary Dance, Let’s Dance, Kids Hip-hop
