斯玛特此前效力于奇才，此番加盟湖人，意味着他将成为又一位身披绿军与湖人两大宿敌战袍的球员。此前隆多、小托马斯也曾为两队效力。
斯玛特曾在2022年荣膺年度最佳防守球员，职业生涯场均贡献10.6分4.6助攻1.6抢断。湖人此举也被视作补强外线防守的重要一步。
