Waterkeepers Bangladesh (Bangladesh) organized a protest urging Japan to stop investing in coal and LNG projects and to transition to renewable energy in Bangladesh. Speakers condemned Japanese agencies, including METI, JBIC, and JICA, for their investments in fossil fuels, which have been considered harmful. These projects are wreaking havoc on both the environment and the lives of people in Bangladesh, hindering the country’s potential for renewable energy security. The speakers encouraged the people of Bangladesh to develop their projects instead of relying on foreign companies. In another matter, Waterkeepers Bangladesh and the Khowai River Waterkeeper held a delegation meeting to discuss the crisis caused by unplanned sand mining along the Khowai River. This destructive practice has altered the river’s course and damaged its banks. Tofazzal Sohel, Khowai River Waterkeeper, stated that the extraction of sand and soil using machinery has led to flooding, causing extensive damage to human lives, crops, and property.
