北冰洋栉水母是北极附近较为常见的能发光的胶质动物。它们呈椭球状，能发出微弱的蓝色或者绿色的荧光，还会像水面上的油膜一样显示出彩虹效果。北冰洋栉水母触手上没有刺细胞，但可以分泌特殊的黏液，将一些小型甲壳动物，甚至是小型鱼类粘住，然后送入口中。
