黄光瓷螺 Melanella luminosa 于 1997 年在新西兰被发现。它是瓷螺科唯一已知的发光物种，也是腹足纲中第一个被发现发黄光的物种。黄光瓷螺寄生于红色海参 Squamocnus brevidentis 体表，生活于新西兰南地的南部峡湾和查塔姆群岛，水深 10~238 米。活体采集于 15~18 米深处。其正模标本仅有 5.73 毫米长，但由于其身体的最后一圈会透过半透明壳体持续发出柠檬黄色光芒，所以很容易被看到。
黄光瓷螺的光来自细胞内，没有特别的发光点，在酒精标本中呈白色。其种加词 luminosa 来源于拉丁语，意为“充满光”。
