China Corner of the UN Climate Change Conference opens in Baku

The China Corner of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) was opened on November 11.

Zhao Yingmin, Head of the Chinese delegation to COP29 and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, said at the meeting that in the face of the complex and volatile international situation, China will continue to implement its national strategy to actively respond to climate change, actively and constructively participate in the multilateral process on climate change, vigorously carry out South-South cooperation on climate change, and work together to promote the full and effective implementation of the Kunming Framework for Global Biodiversity Conservation. China is willing to work with the international community to enhance political mutual trust, practice multilateralism, strengthen global cooperation and build a prosperous, clean and beautiful world.

During the conference, China will hold 10 thematic side events, including Public Day, Summit Day, New Energy Day, Carbon Market Day, Cooperation Day, Digital Day, Climate Finance and Technology Day, Adaptation Day, Business Day and Local Day.

COP29 was held in Baku from November 11 to 22. During the conference, Chinese government agencies, research institutes, industry associations, enterprises and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will focus on ecological civilization and the practice of beautiful China, China's energy transition and new energy development, China's carbon market innovation and management practice, "Belt and Road" South-South cooperation to address climate change, AI for climate resilience, climate investment and finance, digital transformation and global climate governance, and climate finance and technology. The event will also feature a number of side events on digital transformation and global climate governance, and climate risk prevention.

Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a press conference on November 8 that China stands ready to work with other parties to uphold the goal, principles and system of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement, advance practical actions and achieve sustainable development. China hopes to see positive outcomes on the global climate finance goal at the meeting. Developed countries should earnestly fulfill their responsibilities and provide strong financial support to developing countries for their climate response.
