据中国铁路成都局集团有限公司建设部相关负责人介绍，川青铁路青白江至镇江关段为国铁Ⅰ级双线客货共线铁路，于2013年10月开工建设，2023年5月铺轨完成。
川青铁路成黄段是我国“八纵八横”高铁网中兰广通道的重要组成部分，是在我国海拔3000米以上高原修建的又一条“天路”。建成投用后，该线路将是川西北地区的一条快捷绿色交通运输通道，填补川西北地区没有铁路的空白。
